Safeguarding Your Life: Practical and Spiritual Steps

To stop watching porn, you need to actively safeguard your life. One of the most effective ways to do this is by cutting off access to pornography and building a strong defense. This includes both spiritual and practical measures.

Spiritual Safeguards

Spend daily time with God, immersing yourself in His presence and Word. Equip yourself with the full armor of God to stand against the enemy’s attacks. This includes:

Helmet of Salvation: Renew your mind and protect your thoughts.

Breastplate of Righteousness: Guard your heart and live righteously.

Belt of Truth: Embrace and live by the truth of God’s Word.

Boots of Peace: Walk in peace and readiness to spread the gospel.

Shield of Faith: Deflect the fiery darts of the enemy with unwavering faith.

Sword of the Spirit: Use the Word of God to silence the enemy’s lies.

Practical Steps

In addition to spiritual defenses, take practical steps to remove pornography from your life:

Accountability Partner: Find someone to hold you accountable and support you in your journey.

Device Restrictions: Avoid taking your phone or laptop into private spaces like your bedroom or bathroom. Consider turning in your devices at night.

Identify and Avoid Triggers: Recognize what triggers your desire to watch porn and avoid those situations. This could include social media, certain locations, or even specific relationships.

Social Media: If scrolling through social media triggers you, consider cutting it off temporarily.

Environment: Avoid places like the beach if they are triggering.

Relationships: If dating someone leads to intimacy that tempts you to watch porn, avoid being alone with them.

Do Whatever It Takes

Adopt a “do whatever it takes” mentality. This may include extreme but temporary measures like:

Porn Blockers: Install software to block porn websites on all your devices.

Flip Phone: Consider using a flip phone to limit internet access.

Prayer and Reflection: Spend time in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal your triggers and help you recognize and avoid traps.

Proverbs 1:17 reminds us, “If a bird sees a trap being set, it knows to stay away.” Recognize the enemy’s traps and stay away from them. The enemy aims to steal, kill, and destroy, using porn as a tool to achieve this.

Conclusion

Remember, these measures are temporary. You deserve to make porn a thing of the past. With a combination of spiritual and practical steps, you can overcome this struggle. Do whatever it takes to protect your mind, heart, and soul, and trust that this season will pass. Your freedom and peace are worth the effort.
